Maybe xenophobic, knee-jerk, nationalist reactions aren't the norm worldwide.....fortunately. At the same time, I don't recall anyone ever complaining when a European won the tennis US Open, or any other major sporting event held in the US for that matter. National origin should be irrelevant. Most of the time it is.
