David,
I don't believe in original sin. This is the same idea as indentured servitude, in which a man who owes money was made a slave, and the chidren born unto him were also slaves, until the debt was payed off, a day which never came. Your belief in the Bible is too literal. Adam and Eve themselves were born perfect, and simply forgot the spirit when they began to believe in the body. Such it is with us. We are born perfect, and forget the spirit for a belief in the body. In this, I agree that a second birth is necessary, though I disagree with you somewhat upon the nature of it.
Some of those who would have us believe we are born sinful are those who brought us indentured servitude, say that an unbaptized child is going to hell, and use the notion of us all being damned from the start to look at all who do not believe in the Jesus brand of salvation as the antichrist. There is little sense, utility, or decency in asserting that babies are born in sin.
The Bible says that Jesus himself was born after Adam and Eve, and he was without sin. This was a correction of a previous misunderstanding.
