13:00 ET Dow -92, Nasdaq -17, S&P -8.38: [BRIEFING.COM] The great debate has been sparked over whether we'll see a 25 or 50 basis point rate cut on Tuesday. For our part, Briefing.com is sticking with its 50 basis point forecast though we acknowledge the probability of a 50 basis point move has indeed fallen. In a very real sense, the Fed faces a circular issue with regard to its approach on monetary policy. Prior rate cuts have lifted the equity markets which has helped to maintain a certain level of consumer spending. It's difficult to counter market expectations without reversing that cycle. Total volume traded is ridiculously light with the Nasdaq well under 1 billion shares with only three hours remaining to trade. DJTA -0.6%... DJUA +0.5%... SOX -0.4%... XOI +0.7%... BTK -0.4%... Nasdaq 100 -0.6%... S&P Midcap 400 -0.6%... Russell 2000 -0.6%... NYSE Adv/Dec 1207/1658... Nasdaq Adv/Dec 1446/2062.
