13:30 ET Dow -81, Nasdaq -13, S&P -7.10: [BRIEFING.COM] It's not surprising that the long bond is weaker today in light of the stronger than expected economic data. The 30-year bond is off more than one full point which has brought the yield to 5.835%. Homebuilding issues are getting hit behind the renewed uncertainty on interest rates. The group is sensitive to rates as the pace of new home sales is closely linked to the magnitude and direction of monetary policy. Equities are still broadly lower in afternoon trading. On the positive side, we haven't seen an acceleration in the sell pressure because there aren't very many traders in the market today. Total volume is anemic with only 527 million shares traded on the NYSE and 868 million on the Nasdaq. DJTA -0.4%... DJUA +0.6%... SOX -0.1%... XOI -0.7%... BTK -0.4%... Nasdaq 100 -0.5%... S&P Midcap 400 -0.5%... Russell 2000 -0.5%... NYSE Adv/Dec 1257/1628... Nasdaq Adv/Dec 1496/2031.
