a friend sent me an email from her niece's husband in Iraq. i have taken out names, events, pictures. sounds like things are really quieting down.

Hello all

Hey there just wanted to drop a line and let all know that I am doing fine. We have been conducting a lot of missions and getting a lot done so I am glad about that. And have had the opportunity to dine with the Co and SgtMaj of our Iraqi counter parts on a nightly basis which is nice it keeps me from eating t-rats wich taste like crap. The menu is not normal but once again it beats t-rats. We are served by the Iraqi privates which is unusual for me and my Lt seeing as how in the Marine Corps Staff and Officers usually eat last and after dinner they always serve us Chi which is there tea it is served very hot and with sugar it tastes really good actually. Then we all have a smoke but I stick with a good cigar we talk about the day and the following days events. We plan our current ops around intel and go from there. We do not share everything with them but to tell you the truth a lot of the solid leads we get we do get from them. I usually pull the night shift from about 1600 until 0400. It is good for me that is usually busy until about 0200 then I can start to wind down until my Lt relieves me and get some rest. We also go out on a regular basis but it makes the time go by real quick. It has already been a month while at times it seems to be going slow usually we don't even have time to think about it. Here is a photo for you all. I hope you all like it and as you can see there is always plenty of food for us. While it takes the body a little while to get use to I am use to it so it does not flow right through me any more. The rice and bread is delicious and the lamb is ok, goat better, chicken a little rough but not bad, and the sheep is the best I think. Just got to be careful where you take the meat from because they cook and serve it whole. Yes those are sodas and they taste like ours. They are very respectful and do everything we say and are learning from us everyday. You can tell a lot of these guys want to make a diffrence although there are a lot who are here for the wrong reasons. But we have that in our own forces now don't we. To include our police departments. I love you all and hope you are all having a good time. Oh yeah and the pay is pretty good here to considering this is not really combat anymore. It could be a whole lot worse! Love xxxx
