"The Prestige (you mean Illusionist?) was just a fine period mystery-romance. I found the acting much better, the plot more plausible, and the historical details much finer.

The acting was excellent. The director gave away too much to win as a mystery. Norton made it clear that he wasn't afraid of the Crown Prince from the beginning, quite the opposite as he obviously enjoyed proving he was not intimidated by power. When the lovers discussed their options it gave away the remaining plot of the movie. The chief of Police was too dumb.

FWIW I haven't met any females who disagree with you.
