Pelosi's politics of self-destruction

By donsurber on Nancy Pelosi

Having wasted the last 10 months chasing geese, the Democratic Congress finds itself the most hated Congress. Ever. Poll after poll shows a job approval rating slightly above that of child pornographers. The Reuters poll today had only 11% of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing under Pelosi and Reid.

That's equal to a little over half the people in the lowest quintile of intelligence.

The Congressional Democrats should have passed something before beginning their witch-hunt investigations. Instead of serving the public, Congressional Democrats searched for the Holy Grail of impeachment.

By fulfilling only 1 item on their lame 6-for-2006 agenda, Congressional Democrats have achieved something thought impossible a year ago. And that 1 achievement was via slipping an amendment onto a defense appropriation in a time of war.

They now are half as popular as George Bush.

And so they are turning on one another.

The Hill reported that House Speakerette Nancy Pelosi is blaming the Senate for her inability to craft legislation that actually becomes law. She said on ABC this weekend: "In the House we've passed every one of our bills."

A bill isn't a law. A bill is a blueprint. A law is a house. Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich could work with his Senate to pass bills that became law under a Democratic president a dozen years ago.

What's her problem?

She cannot even drain the swamp.

Where the hell is her earmark reform? Where is her rule that Democratic chairmen lose their chairmanship if they are indicted? Where is her rebuke of Jack Murtha and the rest of Earmarks Inc.?

It is not like Republicans are angels. The entire Alaskan delegation — Republicans all — should be indicted, tried and put in public stockades for a few years.

But Pelosi has copied the Culture of Corruption.

Instead of taking responsibility for her own incompetence, she blames the Senate.

And her leadership team is blaming others for their failures. The Hill quoted Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen of Maryland: "I think it would be important for the American people to get a more concrete understanding of the lengths Republicans will go to in order to hold these things up."

Funny how Gingrich never had this problem. He worked to get welfare reform and a balanced budget first. Then he impeached.

The Hill quoted Democratic Congressman Artur Davis of Alabama: "Our leadership's caution is dictated by the Senate."

That's not leadership, that's followership.

Congressional Democrats wasted the last 10 months with faile attempts to cut war funding and the like. Instead of trying to politicize the SCHIP issue, why not pass a bill that Bush can sign into law? How hard is that? I mean, it was so easy even a "caveman" like Dennis Hastert could do it.
