Been there ... done that! It ain't fun ... the guy should have taken charge and sold the equities himself ... that way he would have gotten to choose how he raised the money to meet the call. Usually there's some time allotment by the brokerage ... but not necessarily I guess. The House does have the right to sell you out at any price ... in any stock they choose ... to meet the margin %.
