For those still clinging to the mirage of MacOS being a modern operating system, even after Apple itself dumped it, I suggest visiting the following Win95 haters site. Even there, they say:
The Macintosh OS, MacOS or System 7.5, is still not on par with most of the operating systems listed here. [OS/2, Linuz, NT 4.0]. Performance and stability suffers with the absence of pre-emptive multitasking, something offered in other OS's (including Win95), though the more rigid standards for Macintosh-compatible hardware alleviates this problem somewhat.

There is no question that Apple has lots of problems, there is no question either that it has some "strengths" (user loyalty, educational market, blah-blah) which have not stopped it from reaching record lows.
Now Apple is heavily discounted, and management has finally started taking corrective action. Will it succeed in its turnaround? Perhaps. If it does it will be thanks to faster, cheaper machines and a totally new operating system. Quite a change of strategy and one long overdue if you ask me. |
