The fast and volatile market we had recently is usually a problem for my pattern trades. Patterns show up as compressed and distorted, prone to whipsaws and spiking at times. But I recently found a way to manage this. Tick charts work very well in this market environment. Unfortunately QCharts does not offer this feature. So I went to trying out Tradestation with Dynastore that runs on top of QFeed. This combination actually turns out to be more reliable that QCharts. But there are some drawbacks. There are glitches in the line drawing tools that temporarily blanks out the screen. If the application is busy retrieving data at same time attempting to draw, tells me it is busy. Like a DOS application! Obtaining a quick read of a bar position on the chart is also problematic as the application is running. And Tradestation is a memory hog. I am thinking now of looking into Ensign as a solution.

Can anyone answer these questions about Ensign. I wonder if Ensign supports tick charts, where number of ticks per bar can be specified, overlaying symbols and indicators from different time frames, and a good rapid way of determining the position on a chart including position of bars. Also is drawing on the chart while it is charting real-time data problematic? Is it a CPU or memory hog?

Thank you!
