Hmmm, that was an interesting write up on Groupwise, but this is what really hit me in terms of how Novell writes software versus Microsoft.

GroupWise 5.5 Defies Gravity -- Beta 3 adds many
useful functions
By Jeff Angus

The more functions that vendors pack into an upgrade, the more
usability and overall effectiveness are degraded-call it software gravity.
Developers usually start with a sharply defined product and blunt its
effectiveness while adding to the number of features with each new version. This is because the
infrastructure of an interface's design can only hold so much-at some point, it gets overloaded and
chaos takes over.

GroupWise 5.5, Novell's latest release of its groupware and messaging tool, defies software
gravity. Perhaps it's because the original design was so well-crafted that each set of additions feels
as if it was already there. While it's not better at everything than chief rivals Lotus Notes and
Microsoft Exchange, GroupWise provides a wider range of messaging and collaborative functions
for a low startup and training investment. >>

This particular line.......

<<Chaos takes over.>>

Hmmm, this is what has me thinking regarding, NW5.0 versus NT5.0.. and the huge installation and code of NT5 according to Beta NT5 reveiws......one is streamlined (NW5), the other is becoming "chaos theory" spinning out of control. We'll eventually see how the wings of the butterfly in flight over Provo, Utah control the weather in Seattle <grin>.
