Emory, NT and Win2K Workstations are much better at memory and resource handling than the Win9x products and consequently they can be left running for much longer periods between restarts. However, I have noticed that in rare situations some applications can still have a negative impact on the OS or the Workstation can get dropped from the local network. Some of these problems that were being reported to company Help desks were easily fixed with a simple restart of the OS. As a result most companies I have been involved with have a policy to restart (soft boot) the Workstation as a standard procedure at the start of the workday to avoid such problems.

Regards,
Nick
