Did the analyst revise the rating (i.e. downgrade or upgrade) or reiterate neutral? It would not be uncommon at all for an analyst to do so IMO.
OT somewhat re the world of analysts. I'm getting more and more fed up with them. Haines on CNBC as well marvelled at the brilliance of the semi-equip analyst from one firm who upgraded AMAT about a year ago at 25, then downgraded it late last week - he would be able to say that he got out at about 27, because the change would be based on prior day's close, even though the stock traded down to about the original recommendation price on the downgrade. Where was that analyst when the stock was in the 40s?
One more...my broker called up the analyst at his firm early last week to ask him about a stock in the internet telephony business which the analyst had a buy on. The analyst was extremely bullish on the stock and its long term prospects, and as the stock had come down in price as well, my broker initiated a small position for one of his clients. So what does this bullish analyst do? Downgrades the stock from Buy to Accumulate TWO DAYS LATER!! The ways of Wall Street!
