Sorry about my cavalier statement about Loral being a recently acquired military contractor. Actually, Loral Space & Communications is the remains of Loral Corp, the large defense contractor, the bulk of which was acquired by Lockheed Martin. LOR is the managing partner of Globalstar and 1/3 owner of Globalstar. It also plans to launch another 64-satellite data network called SkyBridge in partnership with Alcatel Alsthom, and makes and launches commercial telecommunications satellites through its Space Systems/Loral subsidiary. It also owns a piece of an aircraft brake maker, K&F Industries.

Obviously I have no opinion about the company, other than my usual concern about getting too close to communications operating companies.
