Another Prisoner Exchange

Power Line

The Jerusalem Post reports that Cpl. Gilad Shalit, the IDF soldier who was kidnapped in Gaza some weeks ago and has been held prisoner by the terrorists ever since, will be exchanged for 800 Palestinians now being held by Israel. Shalit may already be in Egypt, which apparently brokered the deal.

One can only be happy for Cpl. Shalit and his family, but this augurs a return to the days when all the terrorists had to do to spring their prisoners was kidnap an Israeli. No doubt a similarly one-sided exchange will be negotiated for the release of the two Israeli soldiers who were kidnapped by Hezbollah. Olmert's government stoutly maintains that no Palestinian prisoners "who have blood on their hands" will be included in the exchange. We'll see. Those are precisely the ones the terrorists are most anxious to spring.
