19:05 ET TYC Tyco trims 2003 earnings outlook; terminates unit chief

Co guides 2003 outlook to a range of $1.40-$1.50. While the est is roughly in-line with recently declining consensus of $1.49, it is below co's guidance offered Jan 22 that earnings would come in at the lower end of previously announced range of $1.50-$1.75. TYC attributes the reduced outlook to weakening in the economies in which it operates, particularly over the past 30 days, as well as declining margins at Tyco Fire & Security. TYC has also identified items primarily in its Fire & Security Services biz for which it plans to take a $265-$325 mln charge, reducing full yr EPS to $1.30-$1.40. Co also announced the termination of Tyco Fire & Security Services president Jerry Boggess.

18:55 ET IP Intl Paper guides Q1 below consensus

Co warns that Q1 earnings will be comparable to yr-ago level of $0.12. Multex consensus for the qtr is $0.20. IP blames energy costs, bad weather, and weakening demand. IP targets $1.5 bln improvement in cost structure by the end of 2005.
