In the humanities, you might have a point. I can't say, I never go over there. But I know for a fact that isn't true in other departments, at least at A&M. And, at least at A&M, in the EE and CS departments, ideology doesn't seem to be a factor for selection. Publications and the areas they have done their work seems to be the primary selection criteria.
