Yes.

That's not a difficult leap and it's likely enough just to
say yes.

The reasons are that its mission critical for WalMart to
have the ability to read all tags that enter it's
distribution channels, that WalMart imports about 30% of
its product from China, and over 1/2 its product from
international (european, asian) suppliers, that WalMart
is both smart enough and has already determined that it
must have both the most open read ability and the most
easily modified read ability, that it is aware that this
is SAMsys's core capability to an extent not matched in
the RFID industry, and that SMY holds a strong patent in
this entire concept.

WalMart is pushing the EPC and that may do for a subset
of the suppliers - but mighty as they are they do not have
what it would take to impose this standard everywhere and
they know this. They just want to get going.

There are larger reasons though. This strategy hedges their
bet about standards, leaves them open for future standards
changes, and lets them optimize their suppliers (best
prices).

There will be no monopoly or even a dominant position; but,
they will, I predict, have a strong position among the 12
suppliers that WalMart will pick for readers. It's also
quite likely that they will have a small royalty from some
of the other reader suppliers.
