It is not so much the straw-man analogies, as this:
I know this thread won't endear too many liberals, but if you can't laugh at yourself...well you shouldn't laugh at others.
In the first half of that sentence, I presume what you meant to say was that the thread "would not endear itself to too many liberals."
Well, of course not, but since professed liberals probably do not account for more than 10% of SI regulars, they do not normally expect any political thread to "endear itself" to them. They are used to all that persiflage about liberals, in other words. And poking fun at liberals on SI is as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. So, go ahead, do your thing. Who cares?
What does not make sense -- what is incoherent, in other words -- is the second part of the sentence: "...if you can't laugh at yourself, you should not laugh at others."
Since it is you laughing at the liberals, not the other way around, it behooves you, not the liberals, to also laugh at yourself.
So far, you seem to lack a sense of humor where your own convictions are concerned.
