Cost of health care wasn't my concern with them building a house in the boonies. It's the TIME involved. From what I see, they are an hour from a Hospital, maybe two if they have to wait for an ambulance. And if they are living in the boondocks, what level of care will they get at a local hospital?

When I had heart failure three years ago, I was at in the Kaiser ER undergoing treatment 20 minutes from when I decided to go. Just walked across the street and into a Taxi. Kaiser is as good as it gets here in the Islands. As a matter of fact, none of the other islands have a hospital at it's level.

I am a big believer in retiring into a good urban medical environment. Climate and a US Government first, medical second.
