After reading the NYT article, it seems clear to me that the
only reason for the lawsuit is to somehow/someway slow
down the Merced threat. They are just trying to buy time...
for the ultimate doom however. I think Palmer wants roylaties
for the upcoming Merced (and existing Pentiums) and I
hope Intel plays hardball and doesn't give in. Hopefully,
Intel will slap some significant patent lawsuits on DEC
very soon, so the real negotiations can begin.

Also, I get the impression that DEC will not go through with
an injunction to stop current Pentium/PPRO/PII chips. Palmer
states that's not his intention and that if that did happen, it
would hurt DEC as well. Seems DEC is backing off a bit there
anyway.
