The fact is that campaigns don’t need to be harmonious to win, and infighting is common in presidential campaigns, even successful ones. The 1992 Clinton campaign — now nostalgically recalled as a disciplined, collegial effort — went through several different leadership structures in the 14 months between Labor Day 1991 and Election Day 1992. And Al Gore’s presidential campaign in 2000 went through four regime changes in 16 months.
