On the extinction of the competitive telcos and their suppliers:

This one talks about the glut of dark fiber in the ground and the coming nuclear winter for the competitive telcos:

BTW 360networks defaulted on an interest payment on Friday. Could have fallout raining on LVLT, MCLD, and NOPT's parades today.

This one talks about how the telco equipment sector isn't coming back until second half 2000, and will never come back to what it was last year:

Of course we all know by now that Nortel announced it will lose $19.2 BILLION this quarter, eliminate its dividend, and cut 10,000 jobs (on top of the 20,000 layoffs already announced).

And Lucent's debt got downgraded to junk-bond rating.

On the Nikkei today, fiber-optics operators and component makers fell about 3% each.

This should be a great week to be short telcos and equipment vendors.
