FREEWARE Solution Suggestion for Fast and Easy Downloads - Download Accelerator Plus speedbit.com
Ever start downloading that huge game or upgrade on an older op/sys, the one that takes 20 minutes, and watching the little blue line go 96%...97%...98%. All of a sudden, the modem drops your connection. Bah! Now you've got to start all over again, right? Not if you were downloading with Download Accelerator Plus.
DAP is a program which runs in the background of your PC, waiting for you to download a file. When you start, it pops up and shows you not only the place you are downloading from, but any other site which 'mirrors' the same file, and chooses the fastest site for your download, automatically!
In addition, DAP makes up to 4 simultaneous connections, so if one site is slow, you're not stuck waiting...most of the file will be downloaded from faster sites. This can increase download speeds up to 300%.
But that's not the best feature. Remember that 'broken download'? With DAP, you simply select the program that didn't finish, click 'Resume', and DAP will continue downloading from the point you lost your connection. No need to start from the beginning, it's just 99%...100% with DAP!
DAP will also allow you to stop a download and pick it up again anytime you want, or allow you to schedule your downloads for later. It's never been easier to manage your downloads, especially if they are 'popular' programs which are available from many sites.
There are a few drawbacks, however, which are easily overcome with care.
The first is that DAP will not allow you to download a file if it thinks you already have. If you want to download again, just delete the 'old' one from the DAP download list and try again (it's a good idea to purge this list occasionally as well).
Secondly, DAP will often give the 'duplicate file error' *behind* your browser and then wait for you to respond. What you see is that you clicked a file and the computer locked up...actually you just need to minimize your browser and tell DAP what to do before you can continue.
With a little practice, however, DAP is a *great* tool... in fact, when I had a hard drive crash and had to re-download a bunch of programs from the web, the first one I chose was DAP. The rest were a breeze.
