First, they can't prove, as they must, that we already own at least 50 percent of that market.

Sorry, Rich, but on this point, at least, you're wrong.

Microsoft Takes a Two-To-One Lead in Browser War
WebSideStory's StatMarket Reports Advantage Based on Data Compiled from Over 13 Million Unique Visitors Daily

SAN DIEGO, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- WebSideStory (http://www.websidestory.com), the leader in Internet traffic analysis, traffic building and user trends, today reported that Microsoft's Internet Explorer accounts for more than two thirds of the browsers used on the Internet, according to data published on StatMarket (http://www.statmarket.com). The information published on StatMarket reflects real-time data gathered from more than 40,000 Web sites using the HitBOX(R) Tracker and over 13,000,000 unique visitors a day to those sites.

StatMarket data represents the largest sampling of Internet users and the most accurate depiction of user trends available. WebSideStory updates StatMarket daily, publishing Internet user trends and statistics vital to Webmasters by combining information from the independent Web sites that have joined the HitBox.com community (http://www.hitbox.com) and use the HitBOX Tracker, the Internet's most widely used free Web traffic analysis tool.

As of Monday, March 1 MSIE claimed 66.9% and Netscape Navigator 31.21% of browsers in use. The specific browser usage was as follows:
MSIE 4.x -- 56.83%
MSIE 3.x -- 6.99%
MSIE 5.x -- 2.18%
MSIE 0.x -- .9%
Netscape 4.x -- 25.14%
Netscape 3.x -- 6.05%
Netscape 2.x -- .02%
Web TV -- 1.81%.

WebSideStory also announced today that several new statistics have been added to StatMarket, including peak Internet traffic hours, global referrer trends (what sources are sending sites traffic), and a loyalty index showing how often visitors, on average, return to a Web site. In addition, StatMarket publishes computing statistics, such as operating systems usage, specific referring data, monitor screen resolutions, and color settings.

"StatMarket has become the leading source of data regarding Internet user trends," said Blaise Barrelet, president and CEO of WebSideStory. "Broad distribution of the HitBOX Tracker and our large network operations center make WebSideStory uniquely able to provide this information."
