Matsushita develops new disk technology Tuesday September 8, 5:18 am Eastern TimeTOKYO, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd announced on Tuesday that it has developed a technology which will enable video disks to store up to twice as much content and directly overwrite recordings. The company said the technology will use phase-change material which will maintain compatibility with the digital video disk (DVD) structure. It will introduce this technology at a conference in Hiroshima on September 15. It will be the first time a company has developed a rewritable dual-layer phase-change optical disk, Matsushita said. It said that applications will include the ability to contain six hours of seamless video recording on a 12 cm DVD disk.
