There will always be cheats; and our welfare systems are still primitive. I have seen us overdo welfare, but felt, well, we needed to do that to see it wouldn't work. The problem is we are still trying to figure out what we humans are and how to construct social systems for administering so many people. We need to do a lot of experimenting.

Everything we are doing is new. My generation is the first one in history where the women are free. And now that women are free are they ever kicking ass-lol!

What I object to are these right wing talking points that are usually 99% wrong. Like the Horatio Alger myth. And I don't think everyone can get a PHD in physics. I do think most people are vastly undereducated versus their innate ability and the better educated one becomes the better they are able to survive.

I guess I see people on welfare as victims of a failed social system. E.g. the dems wanted to provide free pre school back in the 70's and Nixon vetoed it. How can anyone expect a kid who starts kindergarten at 5 or 6 to compete with one who gets to go to pre school at 2.5 years. It is impossible for many, the most vulnerable, to make up those 2.5 years.

I had both of my kids in Montessori at 2.5 years. By the time they hit kindergarten they were light years ahead of the other kids. And they stayed ahead of them all the way through university. One is still going and may never stop-lol

If we want to reduce welfare and crime, education is the key. I read a report that said for every dollar spent on head start the society gets back $30 to $60 dollars.

As well, the slackers on welfare and not going to break us. lets worry about the real problems like the MIC, stupid defense spending, and corporate welfare.
