I don't know if it is the ntfs that is the culprit behind your performance blues or not. But I was reading in an XP newsgroup that Partition Magic 7.0 allows reformatting back to Fat32 without loss of data. So you might be able to switch back, if you're brave.

Seems there was a caveat or two, so you better look before you leap. I don't own PM, I just read about this aspect of it.
