Want you to investigate? Gosh, heavens no, I wouldn't presume to ask anybody to do my DD - I'm trying to decipher the prospectus myself.
They do have growth in revenue, and some good alliances, for which they're paying handsomely. I still think it's a good idea, and ultimately a very b2b sort of thing they're doing. Internet promotions.
I went to their site. It doesn't surprise me that ATHM is an investor - the whole sweepstakes idea is very Dick Clark/Ed McMahon/TV-ish in sensibility.
Their technology seems to be more about how they're using the tech of others, esp. ORCL. They do have one patent pending; in their words:
>Proprietary Rights We protect our technology and proprietary rights through a combination of patent, copyright, trade secret and trademark law. We have filed one patent application in the United States relating to the presentation of questions to webstakes.com visitors. In addition, we have a pending registration for the Webstakes trademark in the United States. Our patent applications and trademark registration may not be approved.<
So, their original tech is not in a league with guys like JNPR, or even LOOK or SPNW.
Once again, the question is - will enough sites go to these guys for promotional services? I think yes, eventually. They appeal to a very strong cultural force - greed. |
