Ciba Specialty Chemicals Corp. Partners With AES NewEnergy to Increase Delaware's Electricity System Reliability biz.yahoo.com NEWPORT, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 20, 2001--Ciba Specialty Chemicals, a global manufacturer of high-performance chemicals, has joined with AES NewEnergy to help increase the electricity reliability in Delaware and the PJM Interconnection territory.
AES NewEnergy, America's leading retail electricity provider, is offering a curtailment program that helps to ensure adequate electric supply in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland, as well as save customers substantial dollars on their summer electric bills.
This curtailment program is sponsored by the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland (PJM) Interconnection, which serves Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey.
``Reliability of electricity service is a big concern across the country right now and AES NewEnergy is pleased we can offer our customers a service that not only addresses the problem, but provides them some value as well,'' said Ed Toppi, vice president of AES NewEnergy. ``Many of the mid-Atlantic states have a competitive market, which is what allows us to offer these kind of products to our customers that help ensure everyone in the region will enjoy reliable service throughout the summer months.''
Ciba's Newport, Del., site, which develops and produces high-performance organic pigments for use in paints, plastics and inks, will participate in this program by volunteering to interrupt up to 2 megawatts of electricity during peak periods of usage this summer. Two megawatts is approximately equal to the amount of energy that 2,000 residences would use.
``We are proud to do our part to help increase the reliable supply of electricity for all Delawareans,'' said James Loar, energy manager at Ciba. |
