Why should your hard earned money fund a wealthy old person's drugs?

My father worked hard all his life and with savings and a good retirement program had a very comfortable retirement. He tried to refuse his Social Security checks on the grounds that he didn't need them and other people needed the money more, but the government insisted on sending them to him. So he gave it all to various charities.

But he was always distressed that the government insisted on sending money to people who didn't need it when his kids could really have benefited from lowered SS taxes.
