James,

Perhaps David will comment on this as well. A number of Borland employees monitor this service but not necessarily every day.

Your points are well taken. It seems that the trade winds favor JAVA and that it will become one of the dominant languages for small to medium sized applications. And Borland is certainly aware of this as Latte and the AppAccelerator (JAVA Just In Time compiler) are internally getting a lot of attention already.

But here are two things for Borland to consider when deciding to put all its beans into the JAVA grinder.

- JAVA has limits when it comes to large scale applications. For one thing (as I understand it) it doesn't directly support pointers. This is one of the things that makes it easy to learn and use.

- OS vendors are going to be tinkering with a variety of ways to build some level of JAVA into the OS. We need to see a little more about the form that will take. Our real opportunity will be the tools to integrate JAVA apps into enterprise apps whether on Internet, Intranet or just a plain old LAN or WAN. OEC is a big step in that direction.

Also, somebody mentioned making Delphi truly "object oriented". What's missing that would complete the picture? In the classic sense, Delphi's ObjectPascal meets all of the requirements to be an object oriented language. It doesn't have some of the features of C++ such as operator overloading or multiple inheritance. But it is object oriented.
