May 15, 2001 (Midnight Trader via COMTEX) Applied Materials announced earnings after the bell Tuesday evening. Net sales for the semiconductor company were $1.91 billion, down 30 percent from $2.73 billion for the first fiscal quarter of 2001, and down 13 percent from $2.19 billion for the second fiscal quarter of 2000. Ongoing net income (net income, excluding onetime items) for the second fiscal quarter of 2001
Applied Materials' logged new orders were $1.35 billion in new orders in the second quarter, down 44% from the first quarter new orders of $2.43 billion and 54% below the $2.93 billion in new orders posted in the year ago second quarter.
