I don't know why the "fair tax" people waste their time. Any tax scheme based on doing this is doomed before it comes out the door. Add to this the political argument that the "Fair Tax is a sales Tax" and that makes it sure that it's impossible to pass.

The only tax reform that I think has a chance is presently sweeping Eastern Europe. That's the flat tax. And the way you can "sell" it here politically is that you can keep paying your taxes as you presently do, or switch to the new system. With the proviso that "once you go flat, you can never go back."
