Hi Penni,
Thanks for your note! I was looking at your profile and loved your quote. I like to put my age on mine simply because I enjoy the company of people more my age. This place and others seem to be populated mainly by wiz kids, the kinds our sons would feel comfortable around!

What you said about your son figuring out how to hack the school's computer is interesting. My son actually did it on a dare in his AP Computer Programing class back in about October, got caught, and together we spent quality time in front of the principal, a friend of mine fortunately. To get on with the story....since my son has a reputation of being a model young citizen, he wasn't thrown out of school, but was instead required to help the head computer science instructor -- who thinks of my son as his son -- every day after school with keeping the computers and network in the school up. There are several computer classrooms, every teacher has a computer, and the school and district have a network. Penni, for my son, this punishment was about the equivalent to punishing a little kid by putting him in a candy store and telling him to eat all the candy he wants! Needless to say, he has learned a lot from his one-on-one after school work with the computer instructor.

Rob, my son, has his own web page, but he has never got it entered into the system. He just keeps updating it, and it is the first thing I see when I get into Netscape. He likes web sites for information on computer gaming. He has several such game machines, the latest being the Nintendo 64. He has also recently found web sites he likes where you can play computer games. He and his friends will get on the internet from their separate homes, go to one of these sites and play computer games. Sometimes he and some girls he is friends with will go to a chat web site from their own homes, log in, and just chat by computer. He has showed me how to do that, and there is a Christian chat room I enjoy occasionally going to and socializing.

Although I do not know much about computers, and mainly just buy whatever my son wants/needs, I enjoy listening about them, and have enjoyed my conversations with Mike Spur since that's what he does. He also has an ability to put a lot of humor in his writing, something I enjoy and would like to be better at.

About slide rules. If you are younger than 41, then there is a good chance that is why you never saw one. My senior year in high school was the year calculators were phasing in. One year later...the size had gone down along with the prices. All my homework in college was done with a calculator. I can remember my slide rule and my first two calculators. I remember being envious that other students had much better calculators...I had trouble affording a better one since my parents did not pay for my college. Thus I guess I try to ensure my son gets pretty close to the best of everything when it comes to technology...in other words...I try to create "geek heaven" for him. He in turn, comes running quick when I need help. I've got to admit, this computer, monitor and printer we have are wonderful.

Other than that, its right about 7 AM in Japan right now on Saturday morning, and I'm tired. The U.S. stock market closed an hour ago. I usually get up at 4 AM and spend one or two hours researching stocks. My big decision this morning was whether to keep my ORCL stock, or sell it and buy more APM or SEG. I decided to keep ORCL. I liked what I saw looking at recent news on the company. They are being sued by a competitor, because ORCL managed to hire 11 research people away from their competitors research lab! ORCL I've noted is pretty aggressive, so I suspect that although they did not meet their last earnings estimate because of poor European sales, they were so humiliated over it that it will not happen again.

Anyway, have you always lived in Texas? What do you like to do for hobbies? Are you (I think the term is) a day trader? Do you have a cat? I'm alergic to them, but have 2 dogs.

Take care, Denise
