12:30 ET Dow +120, Nasdaq +21, S&P +11.71: [BRIEFING.COM] Not surprisingly, we're seeing hesitation mid-day with the Dow
trading around the 11,000 level. In light of recent issues in the chip sector, the relative strength in semiconductors is notable. The SOX
trades higher by 1.3% intraday despite an earnings warning out of leading chip equipment maker Applied Materials (AMAT +2.2%) last
night. Additionally, Goldman Sachs came out negative on communications chips slapping a downgrade on Applied Micro Circuits
(AMCC -2.7%), PMC Sierra (PMCS -1.7%) and Vitesse Semiconductor (VTSS -1.5%). The ability of the broader sector to trade
higher in the face of these issues is a positive near term indication for the group. DJTA +0.3%... DJUA +0.3%... SOX +1.3%... XOI
