Isn't the name of the chancellor of Germany spelled in German: Schröder, or in English: Schroeder?

The US official notation of an "ö" is o. This is how immigration enters it into their computer upon entry.
In countries where English is not the official language - and where "ö" "Umlaut" is not part of the alphabet like in Hungary or Turkey - the "ö" becomes "oe".
A friend of mine married to a Korean woman has his family name in his Hungarian passport spelled "Benkö" but in his wife's passport it spells "Benkoe". Thus their US drivers licenses issued in the names "Benko" and hers as "Benkoe". Their joint bank account calls for both names as well. Sometimes a slight problem...

I don't at this time recall how the US press prefers spelling Schröder. Maybe he asked them to be spelled Schroeder?

Doesn't improve on his vast mismanagement of Germany for 6 years now though. Got his second term by playing the anti American card only...
