Reminds me of myself. Lots of details different about our lives of course, but generally I agree with your conclusions.
The Macroeconomics is KEY in small to mid cap investing. If the Tech edge represented by the company is ahead of the curve, you sit and wait. By way of example CAMP and MRVC are perfect descriptions of the Macro economics just now crossing into their spheres of influence.

FYI a great hidden Gallium Arsenide play is TRW. In addition they have INPH laser foundry and a new generation of devices that follow on the Gas product family.
