If I was generally for drug prohibition but decided not to support it because it does not prevent drugs from getting to the street then it might be throwing in the towel. However I'm not for drug prohibition in the first place. Also the problem isn't just that it doesn't prevent drugs from reaching the street but that it causes violence when criminals fight for the drug market and it causes the government to be more controling sometimes even abusive in an attempt to stamp out drugs.

Even if it is throwing in the towel perhaps we should. The historical record of attempts at prohibition is that they usually don't work without draconian government intervention and not only do the attempts usually fail they also make things worse.
