Be careful with concentrating in one or even two pharmaceutical companies. Why? Patent expirations - the hobgoblin of the pharmaceutical industry. Companies can go through incredible booms and busts due to patented products and their patent expirations. Today's Warner-Lambert can become tomorrows Pharmacia & Upjohn. Warner-Lambert was until recently yesterday's Pharmacia & Upjohn. Also, sometimes drugs have unexpected side effects which result in tremendous liability exposure.

You also can't predict who's going to come up with the next amazing blockbuster product. It's a good idea to pay attention to how innovative the company is and has been in the past. While luck has something to do with it, it doesn't explain the whole story.

Better to buy a basket of pharmas. The fundamentals are so good that the group will likely do incredible over the next 10, 20 years. But you don't want to stuck with one that stumbles while others are going through the roof.
