THE LITTLE NETWORK THAT COULDN'T

NEW YORK POST
Editorial
October 14, 2006

Gee, it looks like the air is oozing out of Air America - the ultra-liberal radio network meant to give the left a firmer foothold in one of the few areas of the media it doesn't dominate.

Yesterday, the network filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection while it tries to iron out its financial woes.

Don't look at us to shed any tears.

Let's be honest: It's not like the world needs more leftist skewing of the news.

Liberals already have that massive left-wing conglomerate - CBS ABC- NBC CNN NewYorkTimes-WashingtonPost L.A.Times - through which to promulgate their worldview.

It may be true, of course, that Air America - a better name might be Hot Air America - offers a bit of a novelty: "comedian" Al Franken. (Listeners can be forgiven if they mistake his "serious" political musings for jokes.)

But it looks like he and his fellow left-wingers are getting a tough lesson in free-market capitalism: If no one buys your rubbish, you might well go broke.

(Poor Al. Guess he just isn't "good enough" or "smart enough," after all. Guess, doggone it, people just don't like him . . .)

There's another reason, too, not to be terribly surprised at Air America's cash woes: After all, how did it ever expect to pay its bills when it was relying on funds looted from a nonprofit group meant for needy kids and seniors?

Leave it to liberals to come up with a "business plan" like that.

Two members of the nonprofit, the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club of The Bronx, pleaded guilty this month to skimming money - including $875,000 that went to Air America - from the charity.

A sympathetic Attorney General (and Gov.-Presumptive) Eliot Spitzer gave a pass to four others who were implicated - including Air America associate Evan Montvel-Cohen.

Sore that Fox News and talk radio had begun to make deep inroads into liberal domination of the media, leftists set up Air America during the height of the 2004 presidential election season.

From Day One, the network had a rocky time: It shifted on-air personalities more often than John Kerry changed positions on Iraq. Now it looks like the airwaves may be waving good-bye to the Air America leftists once and for all.

Question is: Will anybody notice when they're gone?
