Baring Predicts a Secular Global Bear Market This Decade quamnet.com Sep 08,2000 - 18:54:52 HKT Baring Asset Mangement predicted that a world-wide bear market will end the now 20-year-old bull cycle by 2010, and stock prices will need five years to return to their peaks. There's a 20 percent chance that the bear market will start in the next year, the company said in a research report, "Strategic Perspectives 2010". "We do not anticipate a bear market developing over the next year, but we are very alive to the risk of the major bull market of the last 20 years coming to an end," said Michael Hughes, chief investment officer. He defined a bear market as one where equity values drop by at least 25 percent and don't recover for at least five years.
