Both moves were worthy of complete and immediate cleaning house of DOD and the intel services. Congress is failing to do oversight. It is now a trivial matter to lie to Congress, shred documents, and raise funding through illegal means. Which is not even necessary, with the Niagra of cash being funneled in, no doubt creating a multitude of sins we won't hear about for years.
Until that changes the more power they get, the worse world problems become, whether by accident or design - it is just inevitable due to the forces at work, and obsession with self-justifying secrecy. The interests of the current regime and the American people are not aligned. The warning of Eisenhower on "influence, sought or unsought" is ignored.
Like the FBI under Hoover, changes can't be done while they have leverage over lawmakers and the administration. Currently, there is carte blanche.
You mention "liberal attacks" and "must associate with straight arrows". What you may not realize, just as one example, is NSA had realtime monitoring even of OBLs phone calls years ago, and would bring favored Senators in to listen at funding time.
The information has always been there.
Another example is the CIA operator who was killed on duty, and whose name was splashed across the media in an official press release by CIA. This is never done - due to the obvious danger to his widow, son, and parents. And yet, it was done. This belies information already known on who is doing what and where. (Unless you believe the "incompetence" idea, violating the oldest policy of CIA and endangering operatives' families. In which case the leadership should be fired across the board.) |
