Bobby Duvall is my favorite Actor. He is also on my "Good Guys" list as an excellent social dancer. This adds another reason for me to like him. Spielberg's quote has been out there for a long time. I am surprised he is denying it now. "American Thinker."
Speaking truth to power
A huge “Bravo!” for Robert Duvall, who had the guts to denounce Hollywood heavyweight Steven Spielberg for playing kissy-face with blood-soaked Cuban dictator Castro. "[Spielberg] said, 'The best seven hours I ever spent was actually with Fidel Castro. Now, what I want to ask him, and I know he's going to get [bleeped] off, [is] 'Would you consider building a little annex on the Holocaust museum or at least across the street to honor the dead Cubans that Castro killed?.... I'll never work at DreamWorks again, but I don't care about working there, anyway.’"
Spielberg’s spokesman now denies that he ever said any such thing. Strabgely enough, although the remark was very widely reported in the American press, this is the first time that I have seen a denial of it from the Speilberg camp.
"The statement that Robert Duvall attributes to Steven Spielberg is totally false," says spokesman Marvin Levy. "He never said it, or anything like it. Steven's trip to Cuba in 2002 was cultural, not political. It was an opportunity to share his films and his values with the Cuban people."
Taking Mr. Levy’s statement at face value, one still must wonder if Spielberg would have made a “cultural” visit to Nazi Germany, and spent hours chatting with Hitler? americanthinker.com |
