Hi Dan,
"and a series of numbers at the bottom left" The last two letters of this number should be your bios version. Mine is SS which I believe is the most current version for my MB.
The bios flash utility is available from the Abit site, and there is a section in the MB manual that explains how to flash the bios. If you decide to update your bios, make sure you record all the settings before doing it. Flashing the bios will result in the default settings being loaded.
"There is no white sticker where it is supposed to be." On my MB, the white sticker is on the underside of the bottom ISA slot. I have to use a mirror to see it.
"I have my memory in slots 0 and 2 now." Is there a problem when you use slot 1, if so check the little gold connectors in that slot to make sure they are not damaged. A friend of mine also had memory problems with a BH-6 MB, and traced it down to some of the connectors in one of the memory slots being damaged. I currently have 128meg sticks in slots 0&1.
One other thing to check is the bios settings under Chipset Features Setup. Mine are set as follows from top to bottom: 3, 3, Auto, Disabled, Non-ECC, Enabled, Enabled, Disabled, 1, 1, Disabled, Enabled, Disabled, 64, Disabled.
