The point is economic thoeries of "free markets" and "comparative advantage" are being used as excuses for these multinationals to ripoff the US and its citizens. That is the point.

If any one of these companies so much as moved across the border to Canada the executive salaries would create such a huge backlash (relative to what canadian execs make)- they would have to respond with pay cuts. US companies are free to move if they wish.
