DVD-ROM controller. This does not do MPEG2 decoding............

Low cost controllers are good for CUBE, because it makes the price of DVD-ROM drives cheaper.

10X DVD-ROM READY FOR MARKET -- Integrated Memory Logic (IML) today introduced what it claims
is the first 10X speed DVD-ROM controller chip that delivers 55X speed for CD-ROMS and increases the ECC
bandwidth by 50%. Dubbed the IML2101, the controller chip is targeted at DVD-ROMs that interface to industry
standard DRAM, digital signal processor (DSPs) and microcontrollers. The chip also features a buffer manager,
CD/DVD-ROM decoder, ECC engine, microcontroller interface and ATAPI host interface. The IML2101 has a
transfer rate of 13.8 megabytes per second data transfers for the 10X DVD-ROM and 8.2 megabytes per second
for the 55X CD-ROM. The IML2101 is sampling with production planned to begin in 4Q97 priced at $8 in
10,000 unit quantities. "The 10X speed and high data transfer capability of the IML2101 provides a migration path
to higher DVD-ROM performance, which will accelerate the acceptance of DVD-ROM drives as a standard
device in multimedia PCs," said Yong E. Park, IML president and CEO. "We will help drive the adoption of
DVD-ROMs by continuing to integrate additional circuit functions in order to lower chip count and manufacturing
costs for our OEM customers." IML: 408 567-5413.
