Westell to demo streaming MPEG video over phone lines.........

Probably MPEG1.

Westell to Showcase FlexCap2 with Streaming Video at the U.S. Hispanic Convention in Houston

Movies screened on the Web with FlexCap2

AURORA, Ill., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Westell Technologies (Nasdaq: WSTL)
announced today that it will be showcasing its FlexCap2(R) Rate Adaptive
Digital Subscriber Line (RADSL) system with streaming video at the U.S.
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Convention in Houston. Streaming video can help
clients place video on their web pages (using various methods and flavors of
software) and teleconferencing on their desktops. Streaming video and audio
is a process that allows users to instantly view videos and hear audio clips
that are often too large for a personal computer's local disk storage. The
demonstration of this exciting new technology, located in GTE's Booth #229,
will feature a kaleidoscope of MPEG video files.
FlexCap2 provides real-world interactive multimedia applications and
services such as high-speed Internet access and remote LAN extensions.
Westell's Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) systems meet service
providers' demand for immediate deployment capability by providing network
interface options such as ATM, Frame, and 10BaseT. Westell's FlexCap2 RADSL
system operates at speeds of 640 Kbps to 2.2 Mbps downstream and 272 Kbps to
1.088 Mbps upstream over an existing telephone line. The system features
simultaneous voice and data service in addition to rate-adaptive capabilities
that adjusts data access speed based on copper line length and quality.
"As the first major U.S.-based carrier to launch a data ADSL trial, we
continue to be very pleased with ADSL's performance in our ongoing tests with
customers," said Barry Nalls, assistant vice president -- business marketing
for GTE. "By delivering dependable, affordable, high-speed access to the
Internet and enterprise-wide networks, ADSL is destined to dramatically
improve the quality of life for web content developers and business and
residential customers who realize that speed is a major competitive advantage
in today's technologically savvy marketplace."
"Westell believes that the strong demand from consumers for applications
such as high-speed Internet access and streaming video has driven the need for
DSL products which are approved for in-home operation and specifically
designed for high-speed data transfer," said Westell's President, J. Nelson.
"Westell continues to provide solutions for our worldwide customers such as
the FlexCap2 system which gives service providers the competitive edge they
are looking for." Service providers in North and South America are currently
trialing FlexCap2 systems to enable delivery of high-speed Internet access,
remote LAN access, and distance learning to their customers.
