Alcatel Introduces Wide-Band Cross-Connect Configuration Ideal for CLECs and Wireless Service Providers

BusinessWire, 09/8/2000 10:16

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 2000-- More-compact version of Alcatel LMC also designed for larger communication carriers who want to consolidate existing edge-office equipment

Alcatel (NYSE:ALA), world leader in optical networking, today announced a new configuration of its popular Alcatel LMC wide-band digital cross-connect system.

The new Alcatel LMC 240 Core solution is designed specifically for communication carriers who have modest initial start-up capacity needs but who are likely to expand in the future, thus the solution is ideal for Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) and wireless service providers. It is additionally well suited for larger communication carriers who want to consolidate existing edge-office equipment. The LMC 240 Core solution is 75 percent more compact than the widely deployed Alcatel LMC wide-band digital cross-connect, yet can be expanded to support the full capacity of the largest systems. The new solution also offers all the features of the larger Alcatel LMCs.

"Alcatel has worked closely with customers to design a solution with the size, capacity, and functionality they need to get off to a running start with a highly cost-effective and proven answer to their specific needs," said Karl Traberg, director of marketing requirements, Alcatel Terrestrial Networks division. "They know they can rely on this LMC configuration because it is based on the same wide-band digital cross-connect that has established Alcatel as the global leader, with 37 percent market share."

The LMC wideband digital cross-connect promotes mixed facility interconnections and provides powerful grooming and performance monitoring capabilities within the telecommunication infrastructure. More information is available at www.usa.alcatel.com/telecom/transpt/1631_lmc.htm.

Alcatel builds next generation networks, delivering integrated end-to-end voice and data networking solutions to established and new carriers, as well as enterprises and consumers worldwide. With 120,000 employees and sales of Euro 23 billion in 1999, Alcatel operates in more than 130 countries. Information about Alcatel is available on the Internet at alcatel.com.
