Fair point. My impression was that Umang was just a talented technologist who was badly misled by people who called themselves businessmen. I was unaware of the impact of his ego on the whole thing, I just know that he was surrounded on the sales and marketing side by people who had massively inflated ideas of their own worth.

I'm still not certain about the Infospinner deal. There is always a choice of direction, at every stage of a company's growth and development. Companies _rarely_ choose the option of contracting their horizons to match their core skills until after disaster has struck. At that point those people who make a business out of the bleedin' obvious come in and look like heroes.

Sam always had his back to the financial wall, and chose to strike out into new markets. Instead he struck out. It would be interesting to hear the full story of how that deal folded; certainly there were those in the Centura community in this part of the world who were energised by the opportunity, and sad that it wasn't consummated. I suspect I agree with you: the Infospinner deal would have been positive.

But you have to work with what you've got. And I still believe that the development-tool train has left the station. SQLBase looks to be the future.
